Many scientific studieshave explored the potential role of medicinal mushrooms in supporting the immune system and possibly helping clear HPV (human papillomavirus) infections.
While these studies are incredibly promising, it’s important to remember that further rigorous clinical trials are still needed to definitively confirm the effectiveness of mushroom extracts in clearing HPV.

Lentinula edodes (Shiitake mushroom)
Kodama et al. (1992) demonstrated that lentinan, a special β-glucan derived from shiitake mushrooms, has powerful immunomodulatory effects. This compound works by boosting the body's immune response specifically against HPV-infected cells, helping the body to recognize and fight off the virus more effectively.

Coriolus versicolor (Turkey Tail mushroom)
A study by Kidd et al. (2000) found that polysaccharopeptide extracts from Turkey Tail mushrooms increased the activity of natural killer cells and the production of cytokines in patients. This suggests that Turkey Tail extract can enhance the body’s immune clearance mechanisms against HPV-infected cells, offering a natural boost to immune health.

Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi mushroom)
Research conducted by Wasser (2014) reviewed the various bioactive compounds found in Ganoderma lucidum, commonly known as Reishi. These compounds play a significant role in enhancing immune responses, potentially aiding the body in viral clearance, including the elimination of HPV. Reishi mushrooms have long been cherished in traditional medicine for their health benefits, and this research gives scientific credence to those ancient beliefs.

General polysaccharide-based immunotherapy from mushrooms
A clinical trial by Santoyo et al. (2017) suggested that polysaccharide fractions extracted from a variety of medicinal mushrooms can stimulate key immune pathways involved in viral clearance, including HPV. These findings highlight the potential for mushroom-based polysaccharides to serve as natural immunotherapeutic agents that support the fight against viral infections.
